It’s fight weekend again in the Western Cape as the popular Professional Fighting Championship (PFC) returns on Saturday.

Local fight fans are enjoying a fruitful period of combat sports in South Africa as calendars are slowly filling up with events across the country, with kickboxing, boxing, Muay Thai and MMA fight cards occupying the weekends.

Cape Town is experiencing an unprecedented period as the Mother City has hosted back-to-back fight cards over the last few weeks.

Three weeks ago, Barebones MMA Championship 2 blew the roof off the Elite MMA gym in Melkbosstrand.

Last week in Wynberg, the Rising Stars Fight Promotion showcased SA’s future fighting prospects, and this weekend, one of the most popular Cape Town-based brands will host their second show since taking a short hiatus.

PFC Redemption rolls out this weekend with a jam-packed three-discipline card. It includes seven amateur boxing bouts, six amateur and professional kickboxing fights and seven amateur MMA fights.

The event, which takes place at Camps Bay High School, will include two title fights and two heavyweight contender eliminator bouts.

On the boxing front, PFC Bantamweight champion Lisolethu Majalisa defends her belt against Anzel Kellerman. In the Heavyweight division, Mateo Cockburn and Antonio Gomes will throw down before Liam Pearmain and Dilane Foyang do their dance as they chase the elusive PFC Heavyweight strap.

In the main event, Cape Town’s K-1 elite will step into the ring as veteran kickboxer and respected coach Wade Hammond and the exciting Timothy Steenkamp vie for the PFC Professional Fighting Championship’s Middleweight title.

This fight has been on the lips of many fight fans across the city. Even supporters in Johannesburg and Durban have been keen on coming to watch this bout, as it is a rematch of sorts after Steenkamp got the judges’ nod over Hammond in a Muay Thai fight in March 2023.

“There are so many exciting fights. Some of our former champions, like Patrick Mbokwe, will also make his return,” says the PFC’s Angelo Addinall.

“We always strive to put on exciting fights, and I look forward to every single one. I love the stories behind the fights. I could talk about each fight for hours. It’s best to be there to witness it. I am very excited about this card,” added Addinall, who plans to put on three shows this year, along with a few outdoor grassroots events.

“We encourage all to come to support their favourite fighters.”

Doors open at 2pm, with the boxing event starting at 3pm. The K-1 card will take place at 6pm, before the MMA roll-out at 7pm. The PFC Redemption card will then be closed out by the K-1 title fight.
