A 55-year-old man was stabbed to death following an armed robbery in Claymanor in Phoenix earlier today.

Gareth Naidoo, of KZN VIP Security, said their medics attended the scene but the man had already succumbed to his injuries.

"It's believed the victim was on the way to his pick-up point for work when he was accosted by two men. The suspects repeatedly stabbed the victim before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of valuables," said Naidoo.

He added that community members, angered by the incident, have been complaining about an increase in drug users robbing residents daily as they waited for transport.

"Drugs are a problem in that area. The community have complained about residents being held up en-route work, copper pipe theft and house break-ins. It seems the drug problem cannot be cured."

On the KZN VIP Security Facebook page,

Rekha Nelson Rughoonandan said: "This won't stop till the community stand together and do something about.“

Zainab Pillay added: “How many more of our elderly citizens, community members, children and babies are we gona lose before we take a stand together and demand changes in our country?”

Shanil Maharaj wrote: “So sad. Condolences to the family. RIP. Too much crimes in our streets. communities and country.”
