Anyone who reads crime thrillers will know that the most difficult serial killers to catch are those who strike at random.
So, when Caleb Wardell, the “Chicago Sniper”, is being driven to death row and the vehicle he and another prisoner are being transported in is hit and he is turned loose, the FBI is nervous.
The bloody trail starts there and the agency turns to freelance manhunter Carter Blake (or whatever his real name is) with “certain specialised talents” to help track down Wardell.
The FBI team he is assigned to is far from pleased about working with this maverick, but there are bigger concerns.
Wardell is a trained soldier with specialised skills. He also has a blood lust that’s insatiable, and has picked up some lethal weaponry. He is terribly disappointed that the body count he was sentenced to die for was so low and figures he has some making up to do in the serial-killer stakes.
As he sets off on an apparently random trail, Blake puts his skills to use and is soon chasing him down.
Fast-paced and full of bloody action, this is the first in the Carter Blake series, I look forward to more.
