The SANDF has opened its doors to the next generation of young South Africans, launching the 2027 Military Skills Development System intake.

The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has officially opened applications for its 2027 Military Skills Development System (MSDS) intake, offering young South Africans the chance to train, serve and gain valuable skills in a two-year military programme.
The Military Skills Development System (MSDS) allows young South Africans to join the military on a two-year contract. During the first year, recruits complete basic military training followed by specialist training depending on their chosen service branch-SA Army, SA Air Force, SA Navy, or SA Military Health Service.
Applications opened on Monday, 16 February 2026, and will close on 27 March 2026. According to SANDF, interested candidates must hand-deliver their completed forms to the nearest SANDF recruitment office or submit them by post.

The SANDF also revealed that Applicants are also required to attach their CV and copies of their ID, Matric Certificate, adding that only the 2025 statement of results will be accepted, and any tertiary qualifications with their application form.
