As the festive season approaches, Cape Town is gearing up for one of the most eagerly awaited events of the year: the Festive Lights Switch-On.

This year, the event will feature a special one-night-only musical tribute bringing together some of the city’s most popular performers. Emo Adams, Loukmaan Adams, Alistair Izobell, Jody Abrahams, and Fancy Galada, along with the Street Stylers dancers, will perform a live set celebrating the music and memories that have shaped Cape Town.

The performances will tie into this year’s theme, “United in Hope,” which organisers say reflects a sense of resilience and community among Capetonians.

Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis described the tribute as a reflection of the city’s spirit. “This is a reminder that, no matter our backgrounds or challenges, we share a common future,” he said. The theme and performances aim to highlight unity, family, and a sense of belonging ahead of the holiday season.

Adding a visual spectacle, the façade of Cape Town City Hall will be transformed with a projection mapping display using 25,000-lumen laser projectors.

The display, also titled “United in Hope,” will merge cutting-edge technology with storytelling to showcase Cape Town’s history and future. State-of-the-art LED lighting will illuminate the stage and the building, while the stage itself has been expanded by three metres to accommodate larger performances and ensure better visibility for the audience.

The event will take place on Sunday, November 30, along the Grand Parade and Adderley Street. Organisers are encouraging families, friends, and visitors to attend, promising an evening filled with music, dance, and festive cheer.

With live performances, a high-tech light show, and public gathering spaces, the Festive Lights Switch-On remains one of the city’s most anticipated events. It offers a chance for Cape Town residents to come together, celebrate the end of the year, and reflect on the city’s journey, all while looking forward with hope.

For many, the event has become a yearly tradition, marking the start of the festive season with music, community, and light.
