RX Radio partners with two passionate runners in a bid to raise funds for survival

The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon could be the solution for continuing to give children a sense of community through the hospital’s radio station.

Cape Town -- RX RADIO, a radio station run by and for patients based at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, is aiming to raise funds through the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon in aid of sustaining the radio station.

The station is a place of solace and provides a sense of community for children to express themselves freely.

“While the work that we do continues to break the barriers of mainstream media, it is no secret that numerous NPO’s have experienced many difficulties due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the country’s economic status, resulting in the fundraising landscape drastically changing. To help the station become more sustainable we have partnered with two passionate runners, Alan Jacobs and Gavin Craig, who will be running on behalf of RX Radio at the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon,” the organisation said.

“If you are passionate about making a difference in a child’s life, then help us continue providing them with a platform where they can express themselves freely and donate to our GivenGain Profile and help us sustain our station.”

The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon’s Race Week will start with the opening of the event’s Expo and Registration at DHL Stadium in Green Point on October 13.

The 5km and 10km Peace Runs will both take place on Saturday, October 15, joining the 22km Trail Run and 46km Trail Marathon for an action-packed day.

Race Week will culminate with the marathon on October 16.

Meanwhile, entries have also officially opened for the 2023 Cape Town Cycle Tour.

On March 12 next year, the Cape Town Cycle Tour celebrates its 45th event.

The Cycle Tour is a 109km ride around Cape Town, starting in the city centre before taking cyclists through the suburbs, along the coast, past the puzzled penguins of Simon’s Town, through Noordhoek and up the world-famous Chapman’s Peak Drive before finishing in Green Point.

“Who could have imagined that a simple awareness ride could turn into one of the biggest cycling events in the world,” said David Bellairs of the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust.

“It’s all down to the passion of the riders, the gees from the spectators, the partnership with the City of Cape Town, and the commitment from people to train and return to the Cycle Tour year after year that has made this a truly iconic South African event. There is no other ride quite like it and we cannot wait for the Cape Town Cycle Tour in 2023.”
