Nick Hamman recently announced a new project on Instagram, telling followers, “I’m writing a book! I haven’t been this excited and terrified in ages."

"I’ve signed with Jonathan Ball Publishers to write a book reflecting on my travels of South African food and culture over the last decade. The plan is to release it in September. I’ll be sharing the writing journey publicly. Feel free to share any well-wishes or advice.”

Hamman is a South African radio presenter, known for his work on 5FM since joining in 2014, digital creator, television contributor and his Hammy Eats food series.

Born in Cape Town, he has built a strong presence in local media through a focus on storytelling and culture.

His career began at MFM while he was studying Politics and Philosophy at Stellenbosch University.

Hamman is also known for projects that connect him with audiences outside the studio. He walked 330 kilometres from Johannesburg to Polokwane and hosted Heritage Tours across Southern Africa.

These projects focused on engaging with listeners and highlighting local experiences.

In recent years, he has shifted toward food content. His Hammy Eats series, launched as a dedicated platform in 2025, explores South African cuisine across different regions.

It covers township street food such as kotas, as well as smaller and lesser-known food spots.

The series has grown online, with videos attracting millions of views each month. Hamman uses the platform to highlight local food businesses and the people behind them.

He also launched the Hammy Eats app, which features more than 1,000 recommended food destinations.

Through this work, Hamman continues to spotlight township food culture and support local entrepreneurs, with a focus on creating opportunities in communities such as Alexandra and Soweto.
