"It's humbling to know that my influence has reached this level. I love it for black women - I love seeing more bold and daring women, especially those older than me."

After years of silence, South African media personality DJ Lamiez Holworthy has publicly called out her doppelganger for imitating her style and appropriating her signature look.

Holworthy took to the social media platform Facebook to address TikTok content creator and stylist, Rural Zulu Girl Stylist, with a powerful message and receipts of the imitation.

The controversy began when the stylist posted a video on TikTok performing a maskandi song duet while showcasing a look reminiscent of DJ Lamiez.

Fans quickly pointed out the striking resemblance, but the stylist was not pleased with the comparison and responded with profanities directed at her followers.

A TikTok user, Zola Radebe, questioned the stylist on why she disliked being likened to DJ Lamiez.

“It will never make sense to me why people expect me to take being called Lamiez as a compliment. It is NOT! As beautiful and talented as she is, being called her is not a compliment.

"A compliment is saying: ‘You look beautiful, you look nice, I like your dress,’ not calling me by someone else’s name, especially when my name is clearly stated on my profile and it’s clear that I’ve existed long before the DJ," responded the stylist.

The video quickly trended on TikTok, amassing over 2.2 million views; however, the stylist has since disabled comments on the post.

Upon learning about the situation, DJ Lamiez took to her Facebook page to share her thoughts.

“Good evening my love. I've tried by all means to ignore it (for years since 2020) because I honestly thought it was innocent. It creeped me out a bit, but overall I found it flattering. I think it's just getting out of hand because this lady has now resorted to swearing at people who innocently mention her looking like me, and every response has my name along with a vulgar slur in it,” said DJ Lamiez.

She revealed that she established her signature haircut and full tattoo sleeve as early as 2017.

“This lady had Moonchild Sanelly braids with no tattoos at all in 2020. It started with the outfits and my overall style and slowly turned into this. She would even tag me. This is the most important part; I honestly have no issue, but to literally imitate and try to mimic me and deny it is scarier,” DJ Lamiez explained.

“It's humbling and reassuring that we're taking up more space - let it, however, be spaces that are positive and uplifting, ones where other women can celebrate and fix each other's crowns without trying to eradicate or compete with each other. There's enough room for us all to shine.”
