When news broke that controversial South African businessman Brown Mogotsi had allegedly survived a shooting, social media turned into a guessing game.

But no one added more fuel to the drama than DJ Warras, real name Warrick Stock, who took on the role of online detective and comedian on X.

In a post that quickly spread across the platform, Warras laughed off the reports, writing: “Hahahaha! Okay, cool story bro - this one is looking like the ‘bomb’ that went off by Nhlanhla Lux’s house lol! Same hitmen.”

The DJ’s post referred to the 2023 incident when community activist Nhlanhla “Lux” Dlamini’s Pimville home was petrol-bombed during the national shutdown protest.

Warras’ comment drew laughter from some and irritation from others who felt he was underplaying a serious event.

Social media users wasted no time joining in.

“Lux catching strays,” one user joked.

Another quipped, “Nhlanhla Lux walked so Brown Mogotsi could run.”

A third added, “At least Lux doesn’t go around asking for tenders on podcasts. Relax!”

Mogotsi, known for his outspoken online persona and controversial opinions, claimed that he survived an alleged assassination attempt on Monday night, November 3, 2025, in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni.

His red Chevrolet sedan was found with about 11 bullet holes and shattered windows, but he walked away unharmed.

While supporters expressed relief, others suggested the attack might have been staged.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed that an investigation is underway and warned that staging a crime would have serious consequences.

“Absolutely, that is defeating the ends of justice,” said national police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe.

“If we are pulling out police resources, mobilising experts, members of Visible Policing and detectives to attend to a particular crime scene, that is a diversion of resources."

"If we do find out that this was staged, we will take action. We have not made that determination yet. We are still investigating and hoping this was genuine.”
