Move over, Vera Wang, there’s a new war in town, and Emma Roberts is leading the charge.
The "Scream Queens" actress has officially signed on to star in and executive-produce a reimagining of the 2009 cult classic "Bride Wars".
But before you go looking for your "something blue", there’s a major plot twist: this isn’t a scene-for-scene remake, and it’s not heading to the big screen. Instead of a feature film, the project is being developed as a television series for Peacock.
Described as a "fresh, loose reimagining", the show is ditching the original premise of two best friends sabotaging each other’s weddings in favour of a professional, and likely much pettier, showdown.
In this version, Roberts will play a high-powered, big-city wedding planner who relocates to a charming small town in North Carolina. Her arrival immediately ruffles the tulle of a beloved local wedding planner, sparking an epic turf war.
Forget fighting over a date at the Plaza; these two professionals will be battling for territory, community loyalty and the right to plan the town’s most high-profile wedding.
Roberts isn't just the face of the show; she is also the executive producer through her company, Belletrist TV.
Joining her is writer Sascha Rothchild, who has already proven she knows how to handle complex female dynamics with hits like "GLOW", "XO, Kitty" and "The Baby-Sitters Club".
While the project is officially in development and has a finished script, it is currently awaiting a formal "series order" to begin filming.
The internet is already spiraling over who will play the "local planner" tasked with going toe-to-toe with Roberts.
Given Roberts' history of playing "glossy but cutthroat" icons (think Chanel Oberlin or Madison Montgomery), fans are calling for a 2000s meta-reunion.
Names like Lea Michele and Ashley Tisdale are already trending as dream casting choices to match Roberts’s signature "mean girl with a heart" energy.
Meanwhile, "Bride Wars" is just one piece of the puzzle for Roberts, who is arguably the busiest woman in Hollywood right now.
Her 2026 calendar is stacked with high-profile projects, including the heavy-hitting biopic, "Hal" and her return to "American Horror Story" season 13.
