South African Afrotech DJ and producer Tcee (Sixolile Mpahlwa) is currently on a three-month residency on Ibiza Sonica Radio.

Tcee has been growing his international footprint, and the results are paying off. Last year, after he did a shoot with German print and online magazine for electronic music, club culture and lifestyle, FAZEmag, he was contacted with the request to do a three-month residency at Ibiza Sonica Radio.

When Tcee got contacted to do the residency, he was excited because it had been a long dream of his to break through to the Ibiza market. “The first show has been received so well, and I'm starting to get enquiries. It's really been a great experience so far,” he shared.

South Africa’s top DJs, Shimza and Black Coffee, started at the radio station, playing mixes. Ibiza Sonica Radio, based in San Rafael, is a premier electronic music station broadcasting 24/7, serving as a global audio/video portal for the Ibiza music scene. The station reaches over 40 million listeners.

Tcee has been DJing since 2015 and expanded internationally in 2021. His first international magazine appearance was in 2020 with Grimes Magazine, and his first international gig was with "Stage IT" in 2021.

When it comes to exploring the European market, Tcee admits that the expectations are very high, especially with all the big names that are there.

“It's a bit of pressure for you as a creative, as a DJ, you end up having to deliver more. You have to make sure you deliver, because there's a certain standard that has been set by the ones that have already been there.”

Tcee hails from a small town, Willowvale, in the Eastern Cape, and began his career in the entertainment industry,  managing artists locally and internationally. During the pandemic, he transitioned to DJing. “After I started DJing, I didn't look back.”

He has had residencies in Colombia, Turkey, the United Kingdom and now Ibiza. Tcee explained that some of his residencies he has been able to do while in South Africa, but has been present physically for others.

When it comes to his performances, Tcee considers the territory he is playing in when curating his sets, incorporating European Afro house and more original house music from South Africa.

Tcee has big plans for 2026, with him hoping to be in Ibiza in April when the summer season opens and new music is on the horizon.
