Miley Cyrus shared in a surprise announcement that she is making her return for her role on 'Hannah Montana' for a special celebrating two decades of the iconic show.

It’s the best of both worlds all over again as American singer and actress Miley Cyrus is returning to the role that made her a global teen sensation: Hannah Montana.
Cyrus made a surprise announcement on Tuesday, February 17, on social media that she is stepping back into her iconic blonde wig for the “Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special”, which will be packed with nostalgia, recreations of the show’s set and never-before-seen footage of the show.
“Going back to where it all began. The Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special premieres on March 24 on Disney+,” she captioned her post that featured a clip of Cyrus stepping out of a car with the number plate “HM 20” written on it.
The “Hannah Montana” show debuted in 2006, ran for four seasons and even earned four Emmy nominations.
Cyrus played Miley Stewart, a teenager living a double life as a pop star named Hannah Montana.
The franchise also included a movie, which was released in 2009 and the show, as well as its characters, went on to be featured in various video games and a wide range of merchandise was sold across the globe.
In 2024, Cyrus made history as the youngest person ever to be named a Disney Legend, an honour bestowed on individuals who have significantly influenced the company.
This recognition was a direct result of the role that raised her to stardom in the entertainment industry.
In an interview with “Variety”, Cyrus shared that her role as Hannah Montana will always be a part of her, and she expressed gratitude for her fans who still love her 2 decades later.
“'Hannah Montana’ will always be a part of who I am. What started as a TV show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of so many fans, and I’ll always be thankful for that connection,” Cyrus shared.
“The fact that it still means so much to people all these years later is something I’m very proud of. This ‘Hannahversary’ is my way of celebrating and thanking the fans who’ve stood by me for 20 years,” she added.
The announcement was met with excitement from her fans, who expressed that they cannot wait to watch the special.
“Me and my high school Hannah Montana backpack are ready,” a fan wrote.
“Yess! My absolute fav is back,” another fan shared.
While another fan commented, “My inner child is screaming,”
“The Hannah Montana’s 20th Anniversary Special” will be filmed in front of a live audience and will debut on March 24 on Disney+.
