Earlier this month I tried on the new Bafana Bafana FIFA World Cup jersey, and while it’s a great kit to add to your wardrobe, the R1,599 price tag is a tad heavy.
That was also the case for me, as I just couldn’t add that to my monthly budget, so it was with heavy heart that I had to put the official jersey back on the hanger.
This past weekend though, I was walking past Mr Price home when something caught my eye in the shop window.
It was a supporters replica of the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations Bafana jersey.
That jersey has always been a favourite of mine and many supporters, not just for the nostalgia but because that was the most successful Bafana side ever as they were crowned champions of Africa.
This jersey features that iconic colour theme of white, black and gold with horizontal patterns.
What was even better was the price. At R299, this is just a fraction of the price of the 2026 official supporters jersey.
Even if you don’t like this specific ’96 themed jersey, there were other Bafana designs in store - with the bright yellow and gold versions also available.
For me though, the 96 edition really stood out and though I’m yet to actually purchase this one, I definitely think I will as soon as my debits for the month have gone off.
