The chef responsible for overseeing the culinary execution of the 15.98-metre bunny chow, now officially a Guinness World Record

South Africa set a new Guinness World Record after a bunny chow measuring an impressive 15.98 metres was completed at Bhai’s Lounge Banqueting Hall in Centurion, Gauteng.
The event was organised by Fire Water Earth Productions in partnership with Bhai’s Lounge, showcasing a remarkable feat of culinary creativity.
Mbali Nkosi from Guinness World Records was present to oversee the process and confirm that the record-breaking requirements were met.
Her role included monitoring the preparation stages and verifying that all conditions aligned with the official Guinness World Record standards.
“This was a carefully monitored attempt from start to finish,” she said, underlining the meticulous nature of the event and judging.
A custom-built 17-metre oven was used to bake a single continuous loaf of bread that formed the base of the dish.
The finished bunny chow, measuring just under 16m, was filled with 40kg of lamb curry, 10kg of sugar bean curry, and topped with a vibrant carrot and onion salad.
Organisers noted that the coordination required was one of the most complex parts of the process.
“This project demanded precision at every stage,” said a member of the organising team. “It was not only about scale, but about timing, structure, and consistency across the full length of the dish.”
Officials from the Tshwane Municipality were present throughout the event to monitor health and safety compliance.
One official noted the level of preparation involved, saying “all safety protocols were followed throughout the process.”
Behind the scenes in the kitchen, the scale of the challenge became clear as ingredients were prepared, measured, and assembled to create a 15.98-metre bunny chow from end to end.

With more than 100 people in attendance, including family members, friends, and supporters, the record-breaking attempt created an atmosphere of cultural inclusion and celebration.
A previous unofficial record holder from Salt Rock in KwaZulu-Natal also attended after hearing about the attempt on Jacaranda FM, adding to the sense of community surrounding the event.
"When it finally stood before us, 15.98 metres of more than just food, we realised this was never just a bunny chow, this was more than just a bunny chow. And this is what history feels, looks, and tastes like," the organisers said.
