Rugby star Ruan Venter pops the question to Anchen Du Plessis in romantic beach proposal

South African rugby union player, Ruan Venter and his partner, Anchen Du Plessis, just took their love to the next level as they recently got engaged.

The 23-year-old took to Instagram to announce the engagement, sharing photos that captured the moment he went down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend.

The beach proposal, which took place at Sea Park in Kwa-Zulu Natal, was a picnic, and it was decorated with multiple bouquets of red roses, with the words “Marry Me” on the ground.

The Lions flank simply captioned the post with the date of the engagement: "21.12.2025".

In addition, the couple has been together for two years and, in January, they celebrated their second anniversary.

To celebrate the anniversary, Du Plessis shared a post on Instagram and wrote: “2 jaar se memories! 2 jaar se liefde! (2 years of memories! 2 years of love!)

The heart-warming post was accompanied by a collage of their photos throughout the two years they have been together.

Although they keep their relationship matters private, the pair do not shy away from posting each other, whether it is on special occasions such as birthdays or simply just a heartfelt post.

In 2024, Venter made his Springboks debut, and the team won against Portugal.

At the time, Venter explained the opportunity as an emotional yet amazing moment, as he was able to showcase his abilities 

According to an article on the SA rugby website, Venter shared: “It was emotional for me and my family, and personally a great opportunity. If you told me two weeks ago that I’d be making my Test debut, I wouldn’t have believed it. It came as a surprise, and it was an amazing moment.”

In addition, he has a successful rugby career, and early this month, Venter’s contract with The Lions got extended until 2028.

This month has proven to be a month of celebrations for Venter and fans, family, and friends congratulated him and his new fiancée on their engagement.
