“At five years old, I did not understand the industry, but I understood how fashion made me feel confident, joyful and free to be myself.”
Those early emotions continue to guide fourteen-year-old Sivalia Kuppen, a rising South African creative who has already made her mark on the international fashion stage.
The Malvern-based model recently represented SA at the prestigious 2026 Dubai Souk International Modelling Competition, where she was crowned Miss Fashionista and First Princess.
Competing against international talent, Kuppen stood out not only for her poise and elegance but for the authenticity she brings to every space that she enters.
"Fashion became my playground for creativity,” she said. “I realised very early that clothes could tell a story without me saying a word.”
Currently a learner at Westville Girls' High School, Kuppen balances her academic responsibilities with a growing modelling career and a wide range of creative pursuits. Her journey began at just five-years-old when she entered and won her first modelling competition in 2016.
Since then, she has continued to build a portfolio rooted in confidence, individuality and discipline, values she credited for her success on global platforms.
“When I stepped onto that international stage, I reminded myself that passion and authenticity are what truly set you apart,” she reflected.
Preparing for Dubai was both intense and rewarding. Kuppen focused on refining her presentation, strengthening her confidence and fully embracing her identity. One moment stands out above the rest.
“Standing in front of such a diverse audience made me realise that fashion is a universal language,” she said. “Hearing my name called was unforgettable, but the connection that I felt with others meant even more to me.”
Beyond modelling, Kuppen is a multi-talented creative involved in art, acting, couture designing and dance. Rather than seeing these interests as competing demands, she views them as complementary parts of who she is.
“School is always my main focus because education is the foundation that shapes my future,” she explained. “My creative pursuits feed into who I am and help me grow both academically and creatively.”

She credited discipline, passion and strong family support for helping her find balance, especially her mother.
“She supports me unconditionally and is truly my biggest fan. Her encouragement gives me the confidence to do everything with joy and purpose.”
Kuppen is also deeply committed to giving back. She actively supports The Cancer Association, Cheshire Homes and various feeding programmes, using her platform to amplify causes close to her heart. Her dedication to community service was shaped at home.
“I grew up watching my father give to others, sometimes even his last piece of bread,” she shared. “Those moments taught me the importance of compassion and action.”

Her involvement with The Cancer Association holds special meaning. “It offers hope,” she said.
“Seeing the smiles of survivors or offering comfort to those still fighting is incredibly powerful.” Cheshire Homes has become another important part of her life.
“It feels like a haven. The strength and resilience of my Cheshire family inspire me every day. When I walk the runway, I represent them too.”
Despite her growing list of achievements, including a feature at the iconic Hollywoodbets Durban July last year, Kuppen remains grounded and future-focused. Looking ahead five to ten years, her vision extends beyond personal success.
“I want to reach young people who need encouragement and help them believe in their dreams,” she said. “When one of us rises, we all rise together.”
Within the fashion industry, she hopes to be part of meaningful change.
“Fashion should be a space where individuality is celebrated and confidence is nurtured,” she said. “My journey is not just about success. It is about impact.”
