Drive-by shooting leaves 1 dead, 2 seriously injured in central KwaDukuza

Durban - Three people were gunned down inside a vehicle on Chief Albert Luthuli Street in KwaDukuza (Stanger) on Wednesday.

IPSS Medical Rescue’s Thinus Stander said they received multiple calls for a shooting in KwaDukuza.

Stander said several IPSS emergency vehicles were dispatched, as well as SAPS and security companies.

“On arrival we were met with a chaotic scene where a vehicle was stationary at an intersection with obvious bullet holes in the vehicle,” he said.

He said paramedics found three people inside the vehicle.

“Two of them were critically injured with multiple gunshots all over their bodies,” he said.

Stander said one patient, who was in a critical condition, was transported by an Air Mercy Service (AMS) helicopter. He said the patient was transferred to a level one facility in the greater Durban area.

The second patient was transported by Emergency Medical Response Service private ambulance service to a local facility in KwaDukuza.

“Unfortunately, there was nothing more paramedics could do for the third person and he passed away at the scene of the incident,” said Stander.

IPSS said the area remains a crime scene, and the cause of the shooting will be investigated.

“Thank you to Alert EMS and KPH hospital for their assistance in treating patients and providing an area for AMS to land,” said IPSS.
