Mark Webber completed a hat trick of pole positions on Saturday when he clocked the fastest time for Red Bull in qualifying for Sunday's Turkish Formula 1 GP.
The 33-year-old championship leader - he's leading team mate Sebastian Vettel by virtue of races won as they are level on points - has now made four poles this season and five in his career.
His team has taken all seven this year.
Vettel, 22, qualified third behind 2008 champion Lewis Hamilton of McLaren who therefore split the pace-setters and claimed a front row start for the first time in 2010.
Hamilton's McLaren team mate and defending champion Jenson Button was fourth ahead of German comeback kid Michael Schumacher of Mercedes.
His Mercedes team mate Nico Rosberg was sixth ahead of Robert Kubica of Renault with Felipe Massa eighth for Ferrari. His team mate Fernando Alonso qualified down in 12th.
Kubica's Renault team mate Vitaly Petrov was ninth and Kamui Kobayashi 10th for Sauber.
On a warm, but overcast, day at the Istanbul Park circuit, the three new teams were all eliminated in Q1 together with Vitantonio Liuzzi of the Force India team.
Liuzzi, 29, had one final lap to try to beat the early cut but could not improve and, two weeks after the Force India team had two cars finish for the first time at Monaco, they had one ousted in the first session of qualifying.
That meant he joined Jarno Trulli and Lotus team mate Heikki Kovalainen, Timo Glock of Virgin, Bruno Senna of Hispania, Lucas di Grassi of Virgin and Indian Karun Chandhok of Hispania back in the paddock.
In Q2 it was Vettel on top again as he was in Q1 and in the morning's free practice. The shock was in seeing Ferrari's double World champion Fernando Alonso failing to make the cut to the 10.
Alonso, who ran over a white line and suffered a big wobbly moment as he ran towards turn 12, could only end up 12th. It was the second consecutive race weekend in which Alonso had suffered a mistake in qualifying - he started from the pits lane after crashing at Monaco.
He was eliminated along with Adrian Sutil of Force India who was 11th, Pedro de la Rosa of Sauber, Sebastien Buemi of Toro Rosso and the two Williams drivers, veteran Rubens Barrichello and rookie Nico Hulkenberg, who sandwiched 20-year-old Jaime Alguersuari in the second Toro Rosso. - Sapa-AFP
