Durban - Some of the country’s top musicians are expected to converge on Durban this weekend for the South African Music Awards (Sama).
The annual event, which this year takes place at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Convention Centre, will be hosted by Thando Thabethe, Somizi Mhlongo and Khanyi Mbau.
“I’m very excited hosting the biggest music awards. The viewers should expect the greatest Samas ever seen, great fashion and lots of controversy,” said Thabethe.
She promised an exciting line-up of performers and a lot of entertainment.
Mhlongo, best known to the television public as the flamboyant Idols judge, said: “I’m excited, honoured and grateful.”
He promised to just be himself when hosting and to cut out the jokes.
Mbau said it was the first time she would be hosting a big music award event.
“I’m excited to be hosting the Samas,” she said.
The presenters will be dressed by Zarth fashion design and there will be multiple wardrobe changes.
Preparing for the event at the ICC Arena were some of the artists: Emtee, nominated in 4 categories; Tresor also with 4; Zakwe with one nomination; and DJ Fisherman who will be performing.
Emtee felt honoured that his work had been recognised by the big musical platform. He hoped to win the Best Rap Album because it was the highest selling album right now.
Tresor said he wished to win the Album of the Year award: “It was produced here in Durban and am very excited to be back again.”
DJ Fisherman said: “It feels good the Samas will be in our city this year.”
Zakwe was nominated for the Best Rap Album: “If I win this award, I will be happy and will celebrate with my family."
