Several suspects appear in court for drug dealing

DURBAN - TWO women were due to appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, for dealing in drugs.

The women, aged 23 and 24, were apprehended during an SAPS intelligence operation in the Mountain Rise policing area.

“The team was following up on information about two women who were dealing in drugs,” said Captain Nqobile Gwala, the SAPS spokesperson.

“The team proceeded to the premises at the Privet Road informal settlement. A search was conducted inside the house.

“Police found 25 pink and white capsules of heroin, eight clear plastic packets containing cocaine powder and plates containing cocaine powder. The estimated street value of the recovered drugs is R25 000.”

Meanwhile, three other suspects were also apprehended on Saturday in Pietermaritzburg for drug possession.

The SAPS said the suspects were apprehended during an intelligence-driven operation which aimed to root-out the illegal trade in drugs in various locations in the Pietermaritzburg central business district.

“The police proceeded to different locations in the Pietermaritzburg CBD where three suspects, aged between 19 and 31, were arrested after they were found in possession of drugs,” said Gwala.

“Police seized… two jaws of crack cocaine, eight pieces of crack cocaine, 51 ecstasy tablets, eight cat bankies and 36 bottles of Smirnoff Vodka suspected to be stolen.”

The drugs were estimated to have a street value of R11 500.

Also confiscated was R1 600 in cash.

The three suspects were also due to appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, for being in possession of illegal drugs, stolen property and drug dealing.
