The dire warning comes as the South African Weather Service issued a Level 4 alert for damaging winds and coastal wave activity across the province.
“Navigation may also be hampered, with particular concern for potential damage to power lines from falling trees,” caution the authority.
They also strongly advised against any coastal or beach activities during the period.
Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), reiterated the KZNDMC's alert. “The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Disaster Management Centre is closely monitoring the inclement weather conditions affecting large parts of the province from this evening," he said.
“Residents are urged to exercise caution, or avoid travelling on bridges and roads in low-lying areas due to potential flooding and sinkholes.”

Severe thunderstorms are anticipated on the KZN south coast today and will extend into the eastern and southern regions tomorrow. “These storms may bring heavy downpours, leading to localised flooding, large hail or significant amounts of small hail, and damaging winds,” warned Buthelezi.
Snow and icy weather conditions were expected, particularly in higher-altitude areas. Reports from Kokstad indicated already hazardous icy roads, prompting calls for motorists to drive with utmost caution. “The risk of snow continues to be high,” said Buthelezi, urging all to be vigilant.
In response to the impending dangers, Buthelezi reassured residents that local municipalities are prepared. “The Provincial Disaster Management Centre is in direct liaison with municipalities to ensure all necessary systems are in place to effectively deal with any incidents arising from these severe weather conditions," he confirmed.
