Emergency services respond to a house-fire in Avoca, Durban, that claimed the life of a man

A man lost his life in the early hours of Sunday morning when a house he was living in caught fire in Avoca Hills, KwaZulu-Natal. 

The incident unfolded at approximately 02:49 when reports of a fire on Greenfield Avenue prompted a swift response from members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA).

Upon their arrival at the scene, Reaction Officers said they quickly learned that a woman had sustained severe burns and was transported privately to a medical facility. 

Tragically, her partner, a 28-year-old man, was confirmed dead after being trapped inside the informal structure, which was completely gutted by the blaze, said RUSA.

The specifics leading up to the fire remain unclear, with authorities yet to establish the circumstances that ignited this heartbreaking event.

Eyewitnesses describe a scene of chaos as flames quickly consumed the home, and emergency responders worked tirelessly to assist the injured and control the situation.
