The Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Thamsanqa Ntuli, says he is addressing serious allegations aimed at two members of the Executive Council (MECs)—the MEC for Education, Sipho Hlomuka, and the MEC for Health, Nomagugu Simelane-Mngadi.

While the allegations are currently unproven and remain subject to investigation, Ntuli has emphasised the necessity of a responsible and proactive response to these claims.

“While these are unproven allegations at this stage, I am confident that the Members concerned and indeed the broader public will understand the gravity of the potential reputational risk these matters pose to their respective departments, the Provincial Government, and the individuals involved,” he stated.

“As the head of a government founded on the principles of accountability, transparency, and ethical governance, I am duty-bound to respond promptly and decisively.”

In a move to ensure due diligence and adhere to these principles, Ntuli has formally reached out to both MECs, requesting them to submit comprehensive reports to his office.

According to a statement fom his office, these reports should detail all relevant facts, contextual information, and any recent developments regarding the allegations, thereby providing a solid foundation for the provincial government’s next steps.

“This information will guide an appropriate and responsible course of action by the Provincial Government, which will be communicated publicly within the coming week,” Ntuli said.

Ntuli also reiterated his dedication to clean governance and public trust. In the statement, he urged the public and the members of his government to exercise calm, patience, and respect for the due process as investigations proceed. The Premier’s call for unity in difficult times underscored the importance of maintaining public confidence in the leadership of KwaZulu-Natal.
