Sexual assault suspect discovered in compromising situation in eThekwini

A disturbing incident unfolded in eThekwini, KwaZulu-Natal, where a 36-year-old man, accused of a sexual assault against a minor, was found in a troubling situation when Reaction Officers intervened at his residence.

The alarm was raised by a distressed female caller, who reported that her stepbrother had attempted to sexually assault her 12-year-old daughter while they were alone at a flat in the area. The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Operations Centre swiftly deployed officers to the scene shortly after receiving the call at around 12:26 PM.

The complainant detailed a shocking scenario in which her young daughter was at home alone with her uncle, who took advantage of the situation while his niece was unwell and unable to attend school. According to reports, the situation escalated when the uncle approached the girl from behind, turned her around, and began to grind against her while suggesting sexual intercourse.

Realising the level of threat, the girl managed to push him away and fled to her room. She barricaded herself inside and refrained from opening the door despite her uncle's persistent requests for her to let him in. Shocked and confused, the young girl waited until her mother returned home to disclose the terrifying encounter.

Upon hearing her daughter's account, the mother wasted no time and contacted RUSA for assistance. The Response Officers arrived promptly and entered the accused’s bedroom, where they found him engaged in a lewd act while watching a pornographic video on his mobile phone.

Officers requested that the man dress himself before they restrained him and ultimately handed him over to the Verulam SAPS for further investigation.

The investigation into the allegations of attempted sexual assault continues, and authorities have withheld the identities of the victim and the location to protect the privacy of those involved. Community leaders and advocates are calling for increased awareness and stricter measures to safeguard minors from such heinous acts. The case has ignited discussions surrounding consent, safety, and the disturbing realities many children face in their own homes.
