Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla's court appearance: A show of confidence in spite of the terrorism-related charges

It was high-fives, hugs and warm embraces when Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla interacted with her uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) members and well-wishers, during her latest appearance at the Durban Magistrates Court building, on Monday morning.

Zuma-Sambudla has consistently appeared in a chipper mood at her previous court appearances. 

There was also pleasant exchanges between some MK Party leaders and members and former Durban Mayor, Zandile Gumede who was at the courthouse for a separate matter.

Zuma-Sambudla, 43, a parliamentarian and the daughter of former president Jacob Zuma faces terrorism-related charges on suspicion that she incited violence on social media with her posts in July 2021.

Many parts of KwaZulu-Natal and some areas in Gauteng were impacted by the violent scenes that unfolded for more than eight days, in response to the imprisonment of Jacob Zuma.

He was found to be in contempt of court for his failure to comply with a court order to appear before the Zondo Commission. He was sentenced to undergo 15 months' imprisonment.

The mayhem resulted in the deaths of over 300 people, with damage to property, infrastructure, and business robberies estimated at R50 billion.

The State maintains that she played a pivotal role in mobilising protesters with her tweets on the X Platform (previously known as Twitter).

Zuma-Sambudla, whose legal team is led by advocate Dali Mpofu, has maintained her innocence.

The matter which is expected to last two weeks is currently proceeding.
