Two construction workers were killed in an accident on the N3 on Saturday morning.

According to ALS Paramedics, a truck allegedly lost control and ploughed into the workers, before hurtling down an embankment.

The incident happened on the N3 Durban-bound at about 11am.

Spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said by the time paramedics reached the workers, two had already succumbed to their injuries.

"Paramedics arrived on the scene to find carnage as they found that a truck had somehow lost control and left the busy roadway mowing down two construction workers before going down an embankment," he said.

"Paramedics assessed the two workers. Both had sustained major injuries and there was nothing paramedics could do for them. They were declared deceased on the scene."

He said both men were believed to be in their twenties.

Jamieson said the truck driver was also assessed at the scene.

"The truck driver had sustained moderate injuries and was treated and transported to a nearby hospital by ALS Paramedics for the further care that he required."

SAPS has been approached for comment.
