With the holiday season already underway, the City of Durban has declared it is ready and equipped to deliver memorable experiences for 1.3 million visitors who are expected, according to projections. One of the key attractions of the city is its beachfront promenade and its facilities.

The eThekwini Municipality has declared that it is ready and equipped for the spike in visitor numbers, stating that its swimming facilities along the beachfront are ready and operational.

The city has also declared in a statement that its beaches are safe for swimming. "The beach water quality is continuously monitored by a team of expert scientists at all beaches to ensure that Durban complies with water quality and safety standards.

At present, all 23 bathing beaches are safe for swimming after tests were conducted," read the statement.

Beachgoers are urged to follow safety rules as enforcement increases for the holiday period. The city has reminded visitors that swimming under the influence of alcohol is prohibited and that instructions from lifesavers, law enforcement officers, and pool supervisors must be obeyed. Residents and tourists have also been warned that jumping off piers is banned due to the extreme danger it poses.

The municipality expressed confidence that Durban will provide another vibrant and enjoyable festive season experience for locals and holidaymakers.

The city also indicated that it had completed maintenance and refilling of all swimming pools along the promenade, including the Children’s Amusement Centre pool, South Beach paddling pool, and Laguna swimming pool, to ensure a safe environment for bathers.

Repairs were finalised at the Illovu and Asherville swimming pools and are ready for use, this after those facilities had sustained extensive damage.
