The Daily News is reeling from the loss of another well-known stalwart Graham Linscott, 83, who died in Howick on Thursday, December 11.

His death is the second within a week of former editor Dennis Pather, 80, who passed away on Sunday.

Linscott, a former associate editor, was also an accomplished writer and freelance sub-editor, having penned, among others, The Last Outpost; Ricochets: The Life Story of Adventurer, Mercenary, Soldier and Aircraft Hijacker Peter Duffy; and Into the River of Life, about conservationist Ian Player.

A product of Maritzburg College, he was perhaps best known as the most recent in a long line of Idlers, with the popular daily column, The Idler, in the Daily News’ sister paper, The Mercury.

Linscott is survived by his son and daughter, James and Sarah.

Funeral arrangements for Linscott have yet to be announced.

Pather's funeral service on Saturday will be held at the St Thomas' Anglican Church on Musgrave Road, Durban, commencing at 10am
