As digital platforms increasingly dominate our lives, the question of authenticity in the information we consume has become more critical.
VERAFIED, a digital trust platform as a service (PaaS), promises to cut through the noise of misinformation with its Blockchain First architecture.
Designed to ensure clarity in an age of confusion, VERAFIED offers an immutable and verifiable record of content provenance and integrity. Khumo Makiti, a trailblazing black female tech entrepreneur and founder and CEO of VERAFIED, is working with a team of dedicated technologists, strategists, and human-centred thinkers.
Together, their goal is to establish a global standard for digital trust in an era increasingly influenced by AI-generated content, which is open to online manipulation.
"Trust can’t be taken for granted anymore – it has to be verified,” says Khumo. “VERAFIED is committed to giving people everywhere the confidence to understand what is real, safe, and deserves to be shared.”
Khumo said their work was vital to curb the prevalence of deepfake videos, cloned voices, and manipulated images that continue to rise and pose significant risks to individuals and communities. VERAFIED adheres to the principles of verification, evaluation, and risk assessment (VERA), enabling users to navigate the online landscape with confidence.
By shifting from a reactive detection model to a proactive certification system, the platform equips users with the tools necessary to combat digital deceptions, whether they be deepfakes or fast-spreading misinformation.
“Misinformation spreads quickly, crosses borders, and influences behaviour in subtle, often harmful ways,” Khumo explained.
“Small verification habits can significantly reduce digital risk.”
To bolster their mission, the VERAFIED team has launched the #IsThisVERAfied campaign that encourages users to stop before sharing content and to question its authenticity, fostering a culture of critical thinking and responsible sharing.
The implications of online misinformation are far-reaching. VERAFIED helps parents verify viral videos before showing them to their children, consumers are able to establish the authenticity of voice notes, and professionals can guard against manipulated content that can have severe consequences for businesses.
Khumo said her team's values resonate through their work. VERAFIED's official launch is expected in early 2026.
