A pilot died after a light aircraft crashed south of Bloemfontein in the Free State on Friday morning.

The Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre (ARCC) confirmed that it was alerted to the incident shortly after it occurred and immediately activated emergency response protocols.

Emergency services were dispatched to the crash site, where the pilot was declared dead at the scene.

At this stage, authorities have not released details about the aircraft involved or the identity of the pilot. Information regarding the flight’s point of departure, intended destination and the circumstances leading up to the crash has also not yet been made public.
