The appointment of advocate Andy Mothibi as the new head of the NDPP sparked mixed reactions, as some believed that the president’s call was unfair, while some stood with it.

@AdvoBarryRoux The appointment of Adv Jan Lekgoa Mothibi is exactly what happens in the government. Jobs are advertised, many are called for interviews, people waste money on transport, but then the person hired is some minister s relative from his wife s side who didn t even submit a CV.

@TsilisoT  Precisely my point. Why abandon the panel route now? Start the process again if you believe in it correctness – even the empowers you to unilaterally make an appointment.

@_Itumeleng_K So only when it suits you guys it’s okay to waste public resources? Starting the process again would require the president to appoint an acting NDPP and pay that person the full salary of that position while spending more public resources on carrying out those interviews again.

@DDT_PM But everyone who got interviewed didn’t qualify. At least we can be confident that he’s qualified to do the job after doing well at SIU.

@vela_bhungane He got this job because he protected that champ from the Tembisa scandal.

@Ntwana985858015 What a guy, what a civil servant. Very solid & incorruptible. Servant of people of RSA with implacable track record at the SIU. A very good appointment indeed & arguably one of the best appointments ever done by a sitting president in history of RSA.

@Tshidiso_rabore The Constitution empowers the president to appoint the NDPP where no suitable candidate emerges through the interview processes, the president may appoint any qualified and fit person, provided the decision is lawful and rational.

@qnjntghf52 On this same note he promised Sans that he wanted the transparent process and he will not interfere with it boom this happened his fans will telling about his powers & prerogative.

@RamailaSimon1 I think we should give him a chance, remember that Andy Mothibi investigated the Home Affairs by the order of Ramaphosa, now he gave the same man a position of NDPP which is the backbone of SA law, maybe they are fixing the country, let’s give them few months and see....

@UyezaMkhwazi Cronje was the best candidate but it was clear from the beginning that she was not going to get NDPP post, Ramaphosa wanted someone who is going to protect him and his corrupt ANC elites and mafia from prosecution as its clear that ANC is never going to win elections again.

@Tumishi_ I can t imagine how those NDPP candidates felt for sitting through long and humiliating public interviews only for the president to appoint adv Mothibi without an interview.

@kabelodick Finally President Cyril Ramamposa did one thing right, he listened to us. Advocate Andy Mothibi as our new NDPP is a win for all law-abiding South Africans. We are definitely starting 2026 on a good note.
