In the early hours of Sunday morning, a man was shot in an attempted hijacking on Jackel Road in Waterloo, KwaZulu-Natal. The incident took place around 1:49 AM, shortly after the victim returned from work and prepared to park his silver-grey Volkswagen Polo GTI.

According to eyewitness accounts from neighbours, the victim was approached by two armed suspects intent on stealing his vehicle. Reports indicate that the victim resisted their attempts, leading to a violent struggle.

During the confrontation, one of the suspects fired a weapon, resulting in serious injuries to the victim, including two gunshot wounds, one to the knee and another to the lower abdomen.

Following the shooting, the suspects fled the scene of the crime, leaving the victim in dire condition. Neighbours rushed to assist and arranged for the victim to be privately transported to a hospital for immediate medical treatment.

Shortly after the attack, members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) arrived at the location at approximately 1:49 AM.

They conducted a thorough search of the area, recovering two live rounds of ammunition and two spent 9mm cartridges, which may provide critical evidence in the ongoing investigation.
