Emergency services responded to a serious incident on Fields Hill on Thursday morning after a fully laden truck travelling downhill toward Durban overturned, trapping the driver inside the wreckage.
According to ALS Paramedics, who were among the first responders at the scene, the truck driver reportedly lost control while descending the steep hill before the vehicle eventually overturned.
Rescue teams worked swiftly to stabilise the scene as the driver remained trapped in the mangled cab.
eThekwini Fire and Emergency Services were also dispatched and assisted with the rescue operation. Emergency crews used specialised hydraulic rescue equipment, commonly referred to as the “jaws of life”, in an effort to extricate the driver from the vehicle.
The extent of the driver’s injuries was not immediately confirmed.
Authorities urged motorists travelling along Fields Hill to exercise caution as emergency teams continued operations at the scene.
