Hope has emerged for one of Durban’s essential care facilities thanks to a R50,000 donation from businessman and philanthropist Vivian Reddy, which will enable the launch of the “10 Calls of Kindness” Telethon in support of the Merewent Cheshire Home. The initiative aims to assist the home in achieving its objectives and sustaining its vital services for individuals living with disabilities.

The ongoing mandate of the Merewent Cheshire Home is to uphold the dignity of individuals contending with severe physical disabilities. Like many non-profit organisations providing similar services, the home faces constant financial challenges that can undermine its efforts to make a meaningful difference.

Some of the facility’s pressing financial needs include:

  • Replacing a specially adapted transport vehicle, crucial for residents’ mobility and access to medical care.

  • Settling a substantial overdue municipal bill.

  • Covering ongoing operational expenses, including staffing, medical supplies, and daily support for residents.

Recognising the urgency, the home’s

management has called on the community for support.

“We urge corporates and individuals alike to come forward and support this cause. Together, we can ensure that our residents continue to live with dignity, care, and hope,” said Raven Naidoo, chairman of the home, expressing gratitude for Reddy’s contribution.

The “10 Calls of Kindness” Telethon is scheduled for March 25 and 26, running from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm at 15 Eksteen Road, Merewent. Local businesses and residents are encouraged to participate and support the home’s mission.
