Two men wanted in connection with at least four murder cases were shot and killed during a police operation in Hillcrest on Saturday morning.
According to KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Robert Netshuinda, officers acted on intelligence that the suspects were hiding at a residence in KwaNgcolosi.
Police located the suspects at a rondavel where they were sleeping. A shoot-out broke out when officers approached the premises.
“Two suspects were shot and fatally wounded during the shoot-out,” Netshuinda confirmed.
He said the suspects were linked to at least four murder cases within the Hillcrest policing precinct. This includes a recent double murder involving an 84-year-old woman and a 13-year-old girl.
Netshuinda added that no police officers were injured during the exchange of fire.
Cases of attempted murder of police officers have been opened for investigation.
