As Metro FM approaches its 40th anniversary in September, the South African radio station is gearing up to celebrate not just a milestone but also the remarkable talent that has paved its path to success over the years.
In a move to blend tradition with innovation, Metro FM is introducing strategic changes to its lineup, effective from April 1, ensuring it remains a dynamic voice for its audience while respecting its rich legacy.
The newly revamped lineup is set to retain the strengths of Metro FM's existing programming while adding fresh talent that complements the station's signature sound and cultural relevance.
Among the stars joining the Metro FM family are Siyabonga "Scoop" Ngwekazi and Nomuzi Mabena, who will energise the station's weekend shows with a new lifestyle-led programme that embraces a strong digital focus.
This exciting initiative aims to engage a younger audience while still appealing to long-time listeners.
The pairing of Scoop Ngwekazi, a renowned radio personality deeply rooted in South African urban culture, with Nomuzi Mabena, celebrated for her impact on youth television, promises to bring a vibrant rhythm to the weekend programming.
The duo will host an innovative show titled "Audiogasm," airing on Fridays from 19:00 to 22:00 and Saturdays from 18:00 to 21:00.
This urban lifestyle show is set to capture the essence of the streets, offering listeners an engaging and dynamic audio experience.
In a further enhancement of its programming, young broadcaster Ricardo Genesis, formerly of VOW FM, has been selected to join Metro FM as part of the next generation of radio talent.
He steps in to fill the big shoes of Ismail Abrahams, who has decided to pursue new opportunities in the media landscape.
Also, traffic reporter Mvangeli Nzuza joins the weekday lineup, bolstering the station's drive-time service to ensure listeners stay informed during their commutes.
In a nod to the importance of news, Paulette Neo Kayise will transition to handling weekend news updates, ensuring that Metro FM's commitment to delivering credible information remains uncompromised.
Her experience will be invaluable as the station strives to maintain its position as a trusted source of entertainment and information in the competitive landscape of South African radio.
“As Metro FM approaches 40 years, our intention is not to change what already works, but to celebrate the journey of the brand with the talent that has helped shape it over the years,” said Metro FM Business Manager Kina Nhlengethwa.
“These new voices complement an already strong lineup and support the station’s continued connection with its audience.”
The refreshed programming schedule reflects Metro FM’s commitment to evolving alongside its audience while staying true to its brand identity.
