The news of National Police Commissioner Fanie Masemola’s pending appearance in Pretoria court has sparked speculation about why he was arrested:

@MbuyiseniNdlozi APPOINT GEN. NHLANHLA MKHWANAZI AS ACTING NATIONAL POLICE COMMISSIONER NOW! Masemola is not being accused of corruption. IDAC is dragging him to court over a PFMA violation. The objective is to have Ramaphosa remove him. Once removed, the hope is that Khumalo and Mkhwanazi will be exposed, with no one protecting their work anymore. This was always the original mission with Mchunu’s illegal disbandment of the PKTT: to render criminal investigations of organised gangs and their collaborators in the high echelons of SAPS ineffective.

@LilaSonga All correct, but Andrea Johnson was suspended before even thinking about Masemola. IDAC is rotten.

@gmalau32 We stand with Masemola and will be there with him in court on 21 April. We can’t allow this nonsense to continue.

@Thokoza88288017 The NPA has been sitting on the ethics complaint against Andrea Johnson for more than four months.

@mmkubayi Crack the whip!

@Siphesihle_Mash This is not just about Masemola or IDAC. It is about a justice system weaponised to protect elites while criminal networks thrive. Ramaphosa’s silence is complicity. To defend the credibility of SAPS, decisive action is non-negotiable. Suspend, appoint, and dismantle the rot. The criminals must never dictate the future of our democracy.

@Mutwanamba_SA I have seen people giving Mkhwanazi credit. Khumalo and Mkhwanazi have nothing to do with the recent arrests. Which arrests were as a result of Mkhwanazi and Khumalo? As much as Mkhwanazi is doing a good job, let’s not give him credit for things that have nothing to do with him.

@TDKM2508 Oh boy, the president is not ready for a clean, crime-free government. Remember, he said he’s not prepared to sign a new deal if his security clearance matter is not met. So IDAC is doing this deliberately to stop the security clearance process from continuing because they can’t have him in that office.

@BBK29_ Well, I wonder if Ramaphosa will appoint someone as acting national commissioner to investigate him, someone who has publicly said Phala Phala is a crime scene that must be dealt with. We might want Mkhwanazi, but Ramaphosa will not hang himself with his own rope. He will definitely appoint someone he trusts, someone who will turn a blind eye to that.

@Mdu379693238309 It will not happen in South Africa. The decision-making people are corrupt, so Mkhwanazi is their enemy number one. Not happening at all. So much is at stake, with too much corruption.

@azania1023 Best analysis, Dr Ndlozi. Masemola’s crime is oversight. He didn’t steal or influence anything. IDAC is working with criminals. The aim is to have Masemola removed. Make Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi an acting police commissioner.

@smallmatsogo You are dreaming. We can’t have a liar as a national commissioner. He lied on 6 July. He interfered in an ongoing investigation and protected Masemola from facing his music.

@SimahMphahlele A cartel member almost became national commissioner because someone’s presidential ambitions were funded by cartels. A cartel mouthpiece announced this arrest last winter. If anything, this is a witch hunt.
