Suspended police minister Senzo Mchunu’s name has resurfaced, sparking more debate about why the president has not fired him:

@seni_lavu You don’t fire someone because of allegations that haven’t been tested.

@KGbwithadash After seeing MKP’s election structure in KZN led by Willie Mchunu, it makes sense why Senzo Mchunu has not been fired yet. ANC is really struggling in KZN. Things are so bad Bheki Cele had to be included in Ramaphosa’s first administration even with the letting scandal.

@Constitution_94 If I was President Cyril Ramaphosa, given the allegations of Senzo Mchunu’s involvement in criminal cartel activity, I would have taken action and fired him immediately. I don’t understand why leaders don’t fall on their sword.

@ZukoMandlakazi SA politics are deeply rooted in internal party politics and factions. The president is in office due to lobbying by his faction, so firing a member of his faction will weaken it and could end his term. Sadly, that’s how politics works. DCJ should know this.

@alain_Kivuvu We can’t allow that. When two consenting adults decide to have an extramarital affair, we must never allow one party to play victim because they didn’t derive the intended benefit. Very bad precedent. Let’s stop being hypocritical.

@vhapoza He is contradicting himself. His conflicting “resign” and “step aside until you are cleared” positions are two different things. There are so many allegations made against leaders every day, which means we would not have leaders or judges.

@bra_gento I totally disagree with him saying the president should have suspended the minister, because the Madlanga events would have stayed hidden. The cartels would have still been in charge.

@Mageba6345 Clearly you wouldn’t make a good president firing people due to assumptions, hence you are not the president. Bad judge of character.

@Mdamara2191 The challenge with the Madlanga Commission is that it revealed and exposed the cartel that established it. They set it up to buy time for their member Senzo Mchunu, only to expose their entire cartel. They won’t fund their exposure. Never.

@malalaveve What criminality did Senzo Mchunu commit? According to General Mkhwanazi he doesn’t have any evidence of criminality against Mchunu. Which crime did Senzo Mchunu commit?

@websterlicious Go watch the Madlanga Commission and Ad Hoc, and please pay attention. Listen to the misinformation that led us to this mess today. You come here and ask what he did. “Immediately”.

@ThulaniManqele1 Tell your best President to make sure there is enough money to pay for this Commission. Also ask your best President to give you reasons for keeping Senzo Mchunu suspended.
