A woman was shot and killed in Amanzimtoti, south of Durban, in an early morning incident that is now under police investigation.
According to police the 49-year-old woman was ambushed and shot multiple times outside her home by an unknown armed suspect.
The attack occurred while the victim's 6-year-old grandchild was present, but the child was not harmed.
ALS Paramedics responded to the scene on Longacres Drive just before 7am, where emergency services found SAPS officers and private security already in attendance, with the area cordoned off.
Paramedics were directed to a vehicle where the driver, a woman believed to be in her 50s, had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to her upper body.
Despite assessment by paramedics, she was declared dead at the scene.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear, and police are expected to investigate the incident further.
The SAPS have confirmed that a case of murder was being investigated after a 49-year-old woman was fatally shot in Amanzimtoti, south of Durban.
KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said it was reported that a woman was ambushed and shot multiple times outside her home by an unknown armed suspect.
"Her 6-year-old grandson was not injured during this incident."
