The arrest and transfer of MP Fadiel Adams from Cape Town to Durban has elicited strong opinions on X. Here are some of them:

@IrvinJimSA Honestly let Mkhwanazi know in as much as we support his decisiveness in dealing with crime, I don’t think it was necessary to drive Mr Adams in a police van all the way from Cape Town to KZN!!

@Julius_S_Malema This is wrong. That’s what the apartheid regime did to Steve Biko. It might be nice to your ears and eyes for now but this is inhumane and disrespectful. Who’s this guy? A murderer or an honourable member of parliament who went about doing what he’s elected to do?

@Zanele_Shenge Fadiel Adams’ wife, who did not want to give her name, expressed her frustration after waiting for hours at Westville Police Station without knowing his whereabouts. Police said they had to conceal his whereabouts for security reasons.

@MightiJamie Fadiel Adams has been the spokesperson of those who want to insult General Khumalo, General Mkhwanazi and the National commissioner. He has even been undermining investigations. The national commissioner was charged for something he had no control of and derived no benefit from. They want to put the head of police who tried to stop the tender in the same dock as a man accused of fraud, kidnapping, drug dealing, multiple murders and who is the business associate of Hangwani Maumela. What does national commissioner General Fannie Masemola have to do with the actions of Vusi Matlala and the big five cartel. They want to embarrass him. This has the finger prints of Paul O’Sullivan. Fadiel Adams and James Sharnick drove together to the court to laugh at him, gloat and do media interviews. Sharnick has a criminal record linked to car hijackings. Sharnick has been closely linked to General Shadrack Sibiya. The man (Adams) has been playing with fire. He refused to hand himself over. That was an act of arrogance and undermining the principle of rule of law. What business does he have with the head of foreign intelligence at the State Security Agency? Who knows what the truth is but Pravin Gordhan said, ‘connect the dots. All I know is that I don’t trust anyone who is close to Paul O’Sullivan.

@gndzongana Inmates transferred from the Western Cape to KZN often spend additional days in transit due to strict security protocols. Nothing untoward has been done against Fadiel Adams. When transferring an offender, many factors must be considered. Safety is the main concern, along with the inmate’s rights to ablutions and exercise during the journey.

@Miz_Ruraltarain Even without a face-to-face encounter, there is something deeply unsettling about Fadiel Adams. He comes across as an obnoxious, attention-seeking loose cannon – a walking testament to the underwhelming calibre of public representatives we’re forced to endure. It’s exhausting watching these ‘leaders’ unleash their non-existent talents on the national stage. My patience evaporated when he began peddling the narrative that Black South Africans from the Eastern Cape are ‘stealing’ jobs from Coloured communities, suggesting they ‘go back’ to where they came from.

@Manikipi I recalled Fadiel Adams shooting into prominence by attacking residents of Isiqalo informal settlement (Africans) who were on service delivery protest. He formed a vigilante group that blocked them & demanded they be sent to the Eastern Cape. Cape Town media was excited about him, offering countless interviews as a driver of Africans out of Cape Town.
