The Umkhonto WeSizwe (MK) Party has announced media strategist and former journalist Sifiso Mahlangu as its new national spokesperson, marking a significant shift in the party’s communications machinery as it continues to strengthen its political footprint nationally.
Mahlangu takes over from Nhlamulo Ndhlela, who served as the inaugural national spokesperson of the party during one of the most turbulent and defining periods in the MK Party’s rapid rise on South Africa’s political landscape.
In a statement released by the party, the MK Party also confirmed that Ndhlela had stepped down as a Member of Parliament with immediate effect.
The appointment of Mahlangu signals the party’s intention to sharpen its media engagement and public messaging ahead of a politically charged period in the country.
Describing Mahlangu as a seasoned communicator with deep media experience, the party said his background positioned him well to take on the high-pressure role.
“Mahlangu is an academic and former news editor. He is a highly experienced journalist and renowned media personality, and brings invaluable technical and professional insights to the party,” the MK Party said.
Before entering the political communications arena, Mahlangu built a reputation within the media industry, where he was involved in journalism and editorial leadership roles.
The party also paid tribute to outgoing spokesperson Ndhlela for helping establish the MK Party’s media identity during its formative stages.
“The national leadership of MK Party urges the media fraternity, general public and members of the party to provide Cde Sifiso Mahlangu with the usual and necessary support.
“The national officials also take this opportunity to thank Cde Nhlamulo Ndhlela. His contribution in building the MK Party’s media and public footprint is highly appreciated,” the statement read.
