X users are upset by what happened in the Kwaggafontein case against taxi boss Joe Sibanyoni and Bafana Sindane. The court struck the case off the roll after the prosecutor failed to attend proceedings.
@SolaniTanjo The Kwaggafontein saga reflects a deep institutional decay within the Criminal Justice System. For many, such developments likely validate concerns around systemic corruption, political capture and erosion of prosecutorial independence. It’s a credibility crisis for the rule of law.
@D_Molatoli It’s more than just decay and a credibility crisis, Solani. It’s far deeper than that. It’s scary to even contemplate the magnitude of what is going on.
@NemavholaIT The first sign was when the court allowed them to wear sunglasses during proceedings. SMH. KWAGGAFONTEIN EXTORTION CASE.
@AdvoBarryRoux This is Tuletu S Tonjeni, the Kwaggafontein Magistrate who set free taxi boss Joe Sibanyoni and Bafana Oupa Sindane using the prosecutor’s absence, despite it being made known to her that the prosecutor would not be available because he had another matter to attend to.
@BigGuy63247490 She should’ve ordered that they call another prosecutor for the bail application and/or call for the investigating officer to testify on whether the case should be postponed, opposed, or whether the accused should be granted bail.
@UncleTeddyChef I don’t think any prosecutor in a rural area like Kwaggafontein would sit for such a case. This case was supposed to have been transferred to the Middelburg High Court. I knew they would be free.
@Mnyamande_ The State made a mockery of itself in the manner in which it handled this Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni and co-accused case. The prosecutor must be honest with the nation as to why he was a no-show in court.
@Sammy_Mtebule He will be vindicated after the truth comes out at the Madlanga Commission. Instead, Kwaggafontein Magistrate’s Court Magistrate Tuletu Tonjeni will be fired and struck off the roll soonest.
@kgomotshehla It’s like we are watching a movie written by someone who is educating us about something.
@ShottaZee Like what if he’s been driven around Kwaggafontein and told to say: “I will be there now-now” since this morning until the magistrate decided to end it all?
@MolebatsiTurf I am shocked at what happened in Kwaggafontein, but then again a magistrate in Kempton Park argued with my colleague about whether what he was seeing was an application or not, while there was an affidavit and notice of motion in front of him.
@VistoHaOne Welcome to a gangster’s paradise, where the Special Task Force risks their lives to arrest high-profile extortion suspects, then the NPA fumbles the ball on the goal line while ordinary citizens live in fear and the accused walk out of the Kwaggafontein court with big smiles.
