The news of Ghana’s government and the UN sending flights for 300 people who did not show up at the OR Airport sparks debate among users on X:

@Fancy_Face1019 Three hundred Ghanaians were expected to leave. The UN, working with the Ghana Embassy, paid for a flight from South Africa to Ghana to evacuate Ghanaians.

@Sindy_mitani SA journalists are doing what they are paid to do — destroying this country. So, where are the Ghanaians? They were supposed to be flooding the airport by now.

@Moscow35007 They must add the evidence to make their case stronger at the UN.

@BurnaBurnaBabe But they claim they are not safe in SA.

@de_nelz A 5am flight? They are not serious. Even the ones who did not go to the airport seem willing to die in SA rather than return to their own country.

@mshanade1 Mmmmh, so Ghanaians do not want to leave even though there is a free flight. Strange, because why would people who claim they are hated and threatened still want to stay in the same place? Will the government apologise now that it is clear things may have been blown out of proportion?

@homela_sam823 People think it is easy for someone who has been living in a country for years to just pack up and leave. There are children in school, businesses that need to be wound up, and some may even be married to South Africans. It is not as simple as people make it seem. That is why many deported people return.

@johnnie1604 It was easy for them to move from their home countries to SA. Why is it suddenly difficult to move back?

@1kokotela It should be easy if people are truly being “targeted and killed”. The Ghanaian government said they were being killed, so going home where they will supposedly be safe should not be difficult.

@lettymavuso57 The children will be sorted out. This is a government evacuation, so arrangements will be made for them.

@Stayela206 They say they fear for their lives and face threats and intimidation, yet a flight arranged by their own government for 300 people departs with only one person showing up? At some point, we must stop confusing fear with arrogance.

@wandy_motlhamme Only one person? No man, these guys are not going anywhere. They are willing to fight to stay in South Africa. Let’s get ready, people.
