The 45th running of the prestigious Grade 1 Daily News 2000 took place at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on Saturday. Regarded as one of South Africa’s premier classic horse racing events, the race attracted a field of the country’s top three-year-old thoroughbreds.

Star Major, trained by James Crawford and ridden by Mickaelle Michel, won by one-and-a-half lengths from runner-up, Happy Verse.

The iconic Race Coast event drew a large gathering of racing enthusiasts, punters and socialites, who soaked up the excitement and glamour from the sidelines.
