The 45th running of the prestigious Grade 1 Daily News 2000 took place at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on Saturday. Regarded as one of South Africa’s premier classic horse racing events, the race attracted a field of the country’s top three-year-old thoroughbreds.
Star Major, trained by James Crawford and ridden by Mickaelle Michel, won by one-and-a-half lengths from runner-up, Happy Verse.
The iconic Race Coast event drew a large gathering of racing enthusiasts, punters and socialites, who soaked up the excitement and glamour from the sidelines.
Independent Newspapers lensman Sibonelo Ngcobo was on hand to capture all the action.
