A domestic dispute ended in tragedy in Lulekani, Limpopo, when a man shot and killed another man he suspected of having a romantic relationship with his wife before turning the gun on himself.
Police responded to the incident in the Lulekani new stands at around 5 am on Saturday. On arrival, officers found the victim lying unresponsive with gunshot wounds.
Paramedics were called to the scene but declared the man dead, according to Limpopo provincial police spokesperson, spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.
"Further investigation indicated that a male individual shot at the victim he accused of having a romantic connection with the wife. Following the shooting incident, the suspect went to his parental home in Kurhula, where he allegedly shot himself in the head, dying instantly," said Ledwaba.
"The firearm believed to have been used during the commission of the crime and spent cartridges were found at the scene.
"Investigations further revealed that the suspect and his wife were having domestic troubles. The deceased's identity is still being withheld pending investigation," he said.
A case of murder and an inquest docket have been opened, and police investigations are continuing.
Last month, IOL reported that two Zimbabwean brothers accused of hacking a man to death with an axe and severely injuring a woman in a Limpopo village have appeared in court and were remanded in custody.
The brothers, Johannes Makhura, 20, and his elder brother, Jonas Makhura, 55, were arrested after a bloody altercation in Wegdraai Village, Maleboho, reportedly sparked by a fight over a woman.
At the time, Ledwaba confirmed the charges facing the pair.
“The younger brother, Johannes Makhura, has been charged with murder, defeating the ends of justice, and contravening the Immigration Act,” said Ledwaba.
“His elder brother, Jonas Makhura, is facing charges of murder, attempted murder, and contravening the Immigration Act.”
The younger sibling was arrested shortly after the attack, and police recovered the axe allegedly used in the crime. The elder brother was later tracked down in the Alldays policing area, allegedly attempting to flee the country.
