KwaZulu-Natal police have launched a manhunt for a 29-year-old man who allegedly stabbed and strangled his nephew and left him for dead in the Chesterville area.
According to police, Sduduzo Mavundla lured his nine-year-old nephew to a bushy area when the boy had come to visit his grandfather in January this year.
"While in the bushes, Mavundla allegedly shouted at the boy for disrespecting his grandfather.
He then allegedly started strangling and stabbing the boy until he passed out," said provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda.
When the child regained consciousness, he was able to crawl to the side of the roadway where he was helped.
By that time, police said Mavundla had already convinced the family to report the youngster missing.
"Mavundla was then arrested and released on bail. He has never presented himself before the courts and a warrant for his arrest was granted in September. Police have been looking for him since," Netshiunda said.
Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is requested to call Investigating Officer Captain Ndlovu on 082 411 5609 or Crime Stop number 08600 10111.
