A 44-year-old parolee linked to a series of armed robberies in the Mankweng policing area of Limpopo is expected to appear before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on Monday. He faces charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba stated that members of the Limpopo Flying Squad were activated on Thursday, 18 December 2025, at approximately 7:00 PM. The mobilization followed intelligence reports regarding an assailant who was allegedly armed and terrorizing the community of Manjane village through armed robberies.

“The Flying Squad provided backup and after a detailed briefing, operationalised the information,” said Ledwaba.

Police proceeded to the identified address, where the person of interest was located inside the residence. During a subsequent search, officers recovered an unlicensed firearm and six rounds of live ammunition.

The suspect was immediately arrested at the scene. Ledwaba confirmed that police investigations are continuing.

Last year, IOL reported that police in Mpumalanga had arrested a 41-year-old parolee following a robbery incident where a state firearm was stolen from a member of the SA Police Service (SAPS) stationed at Malelane.

The robber had fled the scene after the robbery.

“We are pleased to inform the public that the suspect has now been arrested. The suspect is currently at the correctional centre after being on the run," provincial police spokesperson in Mpumalanga, Brigadier Donald Mdhluli said at the time.

The state firearm was recovered at his home. The parolee was arrested after he voluntarily surrendered himself to the Nelspruit SAPS.
