A 38-year-old Pakistani national accused of murdering a 16-year-old girl has been remanded in custody following his appearance in the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court.

North West police said Ahmad Zeeshan appeared before the court on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, in connection with the alleged killing of Desmonica Cloete.

According to police, the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, December 28, when the accused allegedly strangled the teenager at his residence.

Provincial police spokesperson in North West, Lieutenant Colonel Sam Tselanyane, said Zeeshan later contacted his brother, informing him that he was in trouble and needed assistance. The brother reportedly went to the accused’s residence, where the body of the teenager was found lying on the bedroom floor.

It is alleged that the accused asked his brother to assist him, and arrangements were initially made for the suspect to hide at the brother’s residence.

However, the brother instead reported the matter to the police at the Jouberton police station. Officers accompanied him back to his residence, where the suspect was immediately arrested.

Zeeshan has been charged with murder and contravention of Section 49 of the Immigration Act, 2002 (Act 13 of 2002).

He was remanded in custody to allow him to secure legal representation and an interpreter. The accused is expected to reappear in the same court on Wednesday, January 8, 2026.

Police said investigations into the matter are continuing.
