Police in Limpopo are searching for a Zimbabwean national who allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death during a domestic dispute in Seshego.

The incident occurred at Luthuli Phase 1 in Seshego, outside Polokwane, on Friday at about 10 pm.

Police said the victim, an unidentified woman who is also a foreign national, aged between 36 and 39 years, was involved in a heated argument with her boyfriend at their residence. Other tenants reportedly attempted to intervene and calm the situation.

Later that night, the woman was heard screaming, alleging that her boyfriend had stabbed her. She reportedly managed to jump over a fence into a neighbouring yard, where she collapsed and succumbed to her injuries.

She sustained multiple open stab wounds. The suspect fled the scene and remains at large.

Limpopo provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has condemned the killing, describing the rise in gender-based violence, particularly by intimate partners, as deeply concerning.

“The increasing number of murders committed by intimate partners is alarming and unacceptable. Violence within relationships continues to destroy families and communities. Police will relentlessly pursue those responsible and ensure they face the full might of the law,” Hadebe said.

Meanwhile, provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said officers were appealing to the public for assistance in locating the suspect.

“We are urging anyone who may have information that can assist the police to come forward. No detail is too small and information can be shared anonymously,” Ledwaba said.

A case of murder has been opened and investigations are continuing.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Zachariah Mothata, on 071 646 3347, or report anonymously via the SAPS Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.
