The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, also known as the Hawks, has secured a forfeiture order for a hotel and other properties valued at R22.7 million following an investigation in Limpopo.

Hawks provincial spokesperson Captain Lethunya Mmuroa said the order was granted by the Limpopo High Court division in Polokwane on 19 February 2026.

Mmuroa said the Hawks’ Asset Forfeiture Investigation (AFI) unit worked together with the Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) of the National Prosecuting Authority to secure the order.

The investigation stems from incidents in 2024 when a suspect, identified as Mashaba, allegedly evicted residents from state-owned houses belonging to the Department of Public Works. The houses were demolished and a hotel was constructed on the same property.

The accused further allegedly occupied additional stands belonging to the department.

The matter was reported to police, leading to the arrest of two accused persons, Alex and Ben Mashaba, by the SAPS Limpopo Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit. They face charges of theft, fraud, malicious damage to property and money laundering.

The Hawks’ Asset Forfeiture Investigation unit was tasked with probing the properties linked to the case, while the SAPS Limpopo Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit is handling the criminal investigation.

After finalising its investigation, the Hawks handed the matter over to the National Prosecuting Authority for further handling, resulting in the successful forfeiture application.

Acting provincial head of the Hawks in Limpopo, Brigadier Desmond Alexander, welcomed the court order and thanked various law enforcement role players for their efforts in the matter.
